Ireland country information
Country Presentation
Ireland is separated from Great Britain by the Irish Sea which communicates with the Atlantic Ocean via the Northern Canal and with the Celtic Sea to the south via the St. George Canal. Ireland includes the historic provinces of Leinster, Munster and Connacht, as well as three of the nine counties of Ulster. The remaining six counties in Northern Ireland are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Most of the country is composed of plains surrounded by low-lying mountains. The coasts of Ireland are characterized by their dissymmetry, they are low and sandy in the East, they transform into steep cliffs and are very cut out in the West. The sea often penetrates far inland in Ireland.
Ireland is a country with an area close to 70280 km² and a population of just over 4622917 people. Ireland belongs to the continent of Europe. Its ALPHA2 code is IE and ALPHA3 code is IRL.
