Hungary is located in the center of Europe in the Carpathian basin, it is bounded to the north by Slovakia, to the east by Ukraine and Romania, to the south by Croatia and Slovenia, to the west by Austria. It is a country of plains, the 2/3 of the country are composed of plains and hilly regions.
To the south of this mountainous region, the Danube flows from north to south, dividing the rest of the country into 2 areas of plains: the great Hungarian plain called Alföld which covers the majority of the region east of the Danube to the border with Romania and Serbia. Its alluvial lands, watered by a network of tributaries of the Danube and the Tisza.
Hungary, a low plain with a steppe-like tendency, its vast flat horizons are entirely governed by the hydrographic system of the Middle Danube.
